Yeah, agree and thought about that. I’m always with a bag though, so I always have a pen, pencil, etc with me, so me I’d be okay, but yeah, for most people, a loose pencil is no bueno.

the same body is actually one of my reasons for upgrading…. new bodies tend to come with new issues. All the "gates" have been around new designs.

I’ll be happy to go to the "tock" cycle by doing the upgrade this year.

true, but I meant like actual dollars & cents.

    what does that mean financially?

So are you going to answer the question? What’s it gonna take for you, Aenean144, to upgrade?

For me, I have the iPhone 6. It’s in great condition and has served me pretty well. I could hold onto it for another year, but here’s what I’m hoping for and why I’ll probably upgrade:

    1. Proven body – Redesigns tend to have issues, the 4, 5, and 6 all had their own "gates" (barf). If they keep this in the 6 design, that’s been beefed up and improved on over what would be a 3rd generation, you know that fucker is going to hold up well for a few years.

    2. Size – I’m ready to go big. How I use my phone, I believe bigger would be better for me. I’m certainly not going to get a 1 or 2 year old phone, so might as well go new.

    3. Camera – I’m also ready for better cameras on both sides, front and back. The 6 has been great, but I’ve seen what the 6s can do and this new one will be even better and may have double camera for new photo opportunities.

    4. Speed – The 6 is fine, but compared to the 6s, it’s a bit slow now. The new one should be even faster and my thumbs are ready

In other words, I’m just ready for an upgrade.

Features that sound interesting: Double camera, flush home button, wireless headphones (Apple’s since their wireless stuff talks really well with other Apple stuff vs 3rd party).

Wish list: If I go Plus (or Pro), I’m really hoping for Pencil support for mobile drawing and notes. There’s been no rumors or leaks about this, but it would totally push me to upgrade to a large "Pro" over a Plus or 4.7" if it was even a thing.

Worries: the headphone jack… they really better have wireless charging and wireless earbuds if I’m giving up my fucking headphone jack.

tl;dr – I’m in regardless, but would love to see some cool things to seal the deal.

I’m not on Snapchat (just never really got into it) and I do limit how much I share in IG, so for someone like me, this is a nice way to share more that I otherwise wouldn’t.

But yeah, total ripoff. Not surprising though, FB has a history of knock-off apps.

I think I read that it takes about 6mos to make a Simpson episode, but that was a few years back, so it may have changed. South Park, I think, took about a week.

Agreed, it will be interesting to see if they do do a 4.7, plus, AND pro. I’m at an iPhone 6 now and definitely upgrading to a plus (or pro) this year since it’s a known body with lots of upgrades. I just really hope they do the super camera, great battery, and (fingers crossed) pencil support for my on the go sketching. <3

    Here’s the leak. http://appleinsider.com/articles/16/07/25/rumor-apples-2016-iphone-will-be-dubbed-the-iphone-6se

Who knows, eh? They may shake it up or they may continue to play it conservative, or some weird amalgamation of both. We’ll see! But it’s fun to play along on the sidelines.

Personally, like I said earlier, I hope they drop the numbers.

    come on man

    come on who?

(for an editorial intern, your lack of punctuation is… interesting)

While my preferred nomenclature would be to drop the number all together – http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/1/12340936/theory-why-the-iphone-7-is-the-iphone-7#387533809 – it really isn’t hard to imagine with the popularity of the SE Apple "doubling down" on "SE" for a tweener release to hold over until the big redesign next year.

I think because you actually do get "more" with the Plus. More ram, better this and that.

I think by "rumors" you mean people making shit up because to them it makes sense. Just like how everyone was convinced the SE was going to be called the "iphone 6c."

Sure, but more and more, rumors have been pretty spot on.

The iPhone SE very purposefully dropped the reference to it’s number. They didn’t just tack it on to the 5s’s name like they are saying they’d do with the 6s.

True, but you never know these days. They also do things where the same name applies to multiple sizes like the iPad pro I think… so who knows. They are kind of all over the place!

They will probably stick to the predicable 7 number increase like usual, make a new name, or call this year’s models the "pro" line. The Pro line makes the most sense to me.

I could see them doing something like this. I’d love for them to do a group of the following and just kill the numbers all together.

iPhone – SE with updated internals
iPhone Air – thinner update to 6/6s
iPhone Plus – update to 6+/6s+
iPhone Pro – over the top, double camera, lots of bells, whistles, pencil support etc. <<—— I’d buy this one, btw.

the "sounds ridiculous" has never stopped them before. AppleWatch is ridiculous sounding. Wasn’t the gold one even worse? AppleWatch Edition. AppleTV, etc. They’ve moved away from the "i" and what a better time to rejuvenate an aging product than a 10th Anniversary rebirth?

    iPhone SE
    iPhone 6SE
    iPhone 6+SE

    pretty straightforward, imo.

Actually, isn’t the rumor now that this next phone will be the iPhone 6SE?
    Which makes sense.

Also, my prediction is next year’s iPhone will be a total redesign and be reborn as ApplePhone.

    Cheers.

Tell me when McDonald’s and the Big Mac have social cache that even approaches Apple and the iPhone.

No offense, but "social cache" can go down the toilet pretty fast. If Apple is depending on services more and more for money, which is actually their weakest point when it comes to "reputation of quality", they can lose that cache pretty quick (happens alot in brands, even expensive ones like cars and whatnot).

Right now they have the added benefit of being the default service, but even that is being challenged like the Spotify lawsuit.

So the point is, again, Apple is not doomed, but the future is unknown and Apple is neither infallible nor immortal.

Dudebro, I literally just highlighted and googled mrkite’s first sentence

Adjusted for inflation, Microsoft has made more money than Apple.

    https://www.google.com/#q=Adjusted+for+inflation%2C+Microsoft+has+made+more+money+than+Apple

MS was bigger than Apple when you take in account inflation, Apple may have surpassed that recently, don’t know, doesn’t matter. Either way, MS was HUGE and now they are making camera apps for iPhone now.

In business, as in life, nothing last forever, no one is infallible or immortal, and just because Apple did X in the past doesn’t mean they’ll keep winning with Y and Z in the future. That’s all. They aren’t doomed, they aren’t going to explode tomorrow, but they also can’t rest on their laurels playing catch up for any new tech advancements.
