Here’s information you should probably bear in mind before taking in the following release details, but just in case it’s not a dealbreaker here you go.
Officially it’s Mac-only. Even if it did work you wouldn’t have any way to control brightness etc.
Thanks, you’re right. Fixed.
Yeah, like I say it’ll run at 60Hz. I think the whole reason the 4K model doesn’t use Thunderbolt 3 is so it can be used with the MacBook, so it’s useful to see how it works with the least powerful model.
Just works that way out of the box.
You definitely can’t use the 5K. Some combination of DisplayPort adapters could possibly work with the 4K, but it isn’t officially supported.
Well, smaller than the iMac at least.
As far as I’m concerned the MacBook Air screen has been basically unusable for several years, though more because of the TN panel than the resolution.
The point is that this is what my desk actually looks like. If the photo bothers you, the product will too unless you find more attractive cables or adapters. Which I will maybe get around to later, but maybe not!
It’s not my job to present products as some sort of hypothetical ideal. I wanted to show what it looked like in real, right-now use.
These are X-T1 RAW files processed in Lightroom with VSCO film; I don’t usually do that but wanted to give these shots a nostalgic edge.
The resolution isn’t even the biggest problem with the Air’s display. It’s a TN panel with really bad colour reproduction — I’d never edit photos on one.
