Facebook says it isn’t a media company. Lots of people disagree.
But that debate doesn’t matter: What does matter to the rest of the world is that Facebook, with its 1.8 billion users and huge share of digital ad dollars, has enormous influence on the media landscape.
That’s why Kara Swisher, Walt Mossberg and I are excited to have Dan Rose, Facebook’s vice president of partnerships, joining us onstage at Code Media next month. Rose is the executive who figures out how Facebook will interact with everyone from newspaper publishers to TV networks; he’s also their main deal guy.
So we’ll have plenty to talk about, from Facebook’s ambitions in video to the way it distributes news, both real and fake. And Rose will fit in quite nicely with the rest of our speakers — a who’s who of the most interesting and influential people in media and technology.
There’s Apple media boss Eddy Cue, for starters. And Roy Price, who runs video for Amazon. And 20th Century Fox CEO-to-be Stacey Snider, and Washington Post editor Marty Baron and ... you can see the whole list here.
And when you’re not watching those folks talk onstage — and talking to them onstage, because we need and expect you to ask some questions — you get to network with Code Media attendees: The people who are going to help you and your company survive and prosper in 2017.
Do you want to join them? Of course you do. They’ll be gathering at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel, Calif., on Feb. 13 and 14. Sign up here, and we’ll see you there.
