CoolGames Inc Animated: Why is there a board game called ‘Don’t Torment Me’?

In this week’s CoolGames Inc animation, we take a look at a generic store-brand board game clone with a troubling title — and speculate about the bold new world of board games with unconventional titles. Last but not least, we like to show off one CoolGames Inc fan creation every week. Combining WarioWare and Vine into the ultimate video game

It has been eight years since Nintendo last released a game in the WarioWare franchise. Eight. Years. (And no, Game & Wario doesn’t count.) For this reason, CoolGames Inc has decided to take matters into our own hands: We’re making a new WarioWare, with a spicy millennial spin. In this surprisingly NSFW CoolGames Inc animation, Polygon’s very own Clayton Ashley helps illustrate our genius idea for the ultimate WarioWare game — and some of the pratfalls that might come with the territory. CoolGames Inc: Eve Online, but for Christmas

This week’s CoolGames Inc began as a Valentine’s Day special, but over the course of an hour, somehow transmogrified into the greatest Santa-themed single-shard economic MMO of all time. CoolGames Inc Animated: Creating Church 2, the sequel to church

Here at CoolGames Inc, we believe in iterative design. It’s not enough to just crank out the same game each year — if you’re gonna put out a numbered sequel to something, you’ve got to build on what made the original great while also meaningfully contributing to the franchise. That’s why, rather than annualizing it, we opted to wait more than 2,000 years before creating the sequel everyone’s been waiting for: Church 2, the sequel to church. In this week’s CoolGames Inc animation, Polygon’s very own Clayton Ashley brings to life our unique vision of how one might reboot the “church” franchise for a hip, young, millennial 2017 audience. CoolGames Inc Animated: A visual novel about dating every state in the union

We here at CoolGames Inc love dating sims — but why do they limit us to dating humans (or, more rarely, pidgeons)? Indeed, why not take the dating sim genre to its logical conclusion: dating all 50 of these beautiful United States? In this week’s CoolGames Inc animation, we’ve enlisted the help of artist Angelica Maria Lopez to bring a select few US states to life as the beautiful anime characters we’ve always known them to be — and the results are stunning. Also featured in this clip: Waypoint’s Austin Walker, visual novel expert, and the perfect partner to help us really nail the “patriotic eroge” vibe. Want to listen to the full episode? CoolGames Inc: Burnout, but with horses

After a week or two off, CoolGames Inc returns today — in a special bite-sized format meant for rapid consumption. Which is to say: Griffin, in the middle of his paternity leave, carved some time out of his new life to give y’all the podcast you crave. This week’s episode details Burnout but with horses, a game about managing 7 step-sons, and, uh, Mayonetta. Enjoy!

Designing the ultimate VR bartending game

Ryse: Son of Rome. Backbreaker. The Order: 1886. Glorified tech demos are a bread-and-butter staple of the video game industry, which is why CoolGames Inc has deigned to throw our hat into the ring with the ultimate robust liquid physics simulator. But what to call it? In this week’s CoolGames Inc animation, Clayton Ashley helps us bring that vision to life through the use of some very good motion graphics. Want to listen to the full episode? The pros (and cons) of killing bugs with a salt gun

When you first hear about Bug-A-Salt, the plastic gun that fires a concentrated blast of salt to quickly dispatch household pests, it’s impossible not to be impressed by the genius of it. It’s convenient, humane, and fun — what could go wrong? This week’s CoolGames Inc animation from Clayton Ashley brings to life the tale of one such moment — and what happens when bringing a gun to a bug fight reaches its horrifying logical conclusion. What if cigarettes had microtransactions?

There are few things more financially nefarious than tobacco products. The slow but steady drip-feed of seemingly small purchases can wreak havoc on one’s bank account — and before they know it, a cigarette smoker could spend hundreds of dollars over just a few short months without even realizing it. Remind you of anything? In this CoolGames Inc animation created by our own Clayton Ashley, we set out to design a game that marries the addictive nature of smoking with the freemium trappings of mobile games to create a monstrosity that we fully expect to be our most lucrative title yet. CoolGames Inc: Romancing every state in the union in 50 First States

I don't want to brag or anything, but man, we are on fire lately. Last week we permanently changed the world of kissing- and liquid-based middleware with Love on the Rocks. This week, we're combining the worlds of edutainment and eroge with 50 First States, a game that lets you romance — to completion — every single state in this beautiful nation of ours. As if that weren't enough, we're joined by Giant Bomb's Austin Walker, noted visual novel enthusiast, who helps us turn this game from a decent idea into one of the most perfect pieces of fandom-bait ever constructed. CoolGames Inc: Shadow of the Colossus, but with slam dunks

It's Friday, which means it's time for CoolGames Inc, the weekly podcast where Griffin McElroy and I rifle through your Twitter-submitted game ideas and hone them into beautiful, perfect finished products. This time around, we entertain the idea of an augmented-reality Jumanji game, research an Applebee's flair-driven RPG, and radically improve Shadow of the Colossus by adding slam dunks to the mix. Polygon executive video producer Tara Long guest stars and almost immediately ruins everything we worked so very hard on.
