Minneapolis -- Josh Reddick was out of Oakland's lineup Thursday after a game in which he struck out four times and grounded into a double play.

Manager Bob Melvin noted that the right fielder had a strong spring and that his swing looks fine but said that he might be pressing and that, like most struggling hitters, he isn't recognizing pitches well.

"He's pretty disappointed with what he's doing right now," Melvin said. "For me, the main thing is he has to get out of his own way. He's got some negative thoughts."

Could Reddick be optioned out when Craig Gentry comes off the disabled list Friday or Saturday? It's possible, although it's still more likely that Sam Fuld, like Gentry a reserve outfielder, would be the man to come off the roster. Fuld is out of options, however, and would have to clear waivers to stay in the organization.

Fuld crushed a two-run homer in the A's 6-1 win Thursday. He also singled in the sixth and made a fine running, over-the-shoulder catch in the second inning.

Gentry was on hand in Minnesota on Thursday to fly with the team to Seattle. Melvin said there are other issues involved when it comes to timing Gentry's activation, but he provided no specifics except to say there is no trade pending.

Coco Crisp, who had a cortisone shot for left wrist inflammation at the start of the week, hit in the batting cage Thursday.

Briefly: Dan Straily (1-0) went seven innings and allowed three hits, two walks and one run, despite not having his best stuff, he said. ... Oakland starters have given up no more than three runs in any of the first nine games and have a 1.93 ERA overall. ... Josh Donaldson, who hit a two-run homer in the third, has a 13-game hitting streak against the Twins during which he is hitting .423. ... Donaldson is 7 for his past 19 after starting off 2-for-22. ... The A's have won nine in a row against the Twins, outscoring them 86-27. ... Catcher Stephen Vogt has a strained oblique muscle and is likely to miss several weeks at Triple-A Sacramento.
