IEC Webstore Terms and Conditions
When ordering IEC publications, drafts and value-added products (“IEC Products”) from IEC Webstore, you accept that these Terms and Conditions apply between you (“Customer”, “you”) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (“IEC”, "us", "we"). Please read the following Terms and Conditions carefully. If you have any difficulties understanding the terms of this agreement or if you have any questions regarding IEC copyright, please contact us.
IEC Webstore is run and operated by IEC with registered office at 3 rue de Varembé, PO Box 131, CH-1211 Geneva 20, Switzerland.
1. General conditions
IEC may change or update these terms at any time by posting a new version of the agreement on IEC Webstore which shall be effective as of the date of its posting. You must accept the updated terms in effect at the time of each order placed on IEC Webstore.
IEC may modify, suspend, partially or fully discontinue any aspect of the IEC Webstore at any time without liability to IEC.
2. Copyright and other intellectual property rights
All IEC Products sold through IEC Webstore are protected by copyright pursuant to Swiss and international copyright laws. You shall not copy, transfer, sell, license, lease, give, modify, publish, assign, transmit or otherwise reproduce, disclose, make available to others or create derivative works from IEC Products, or any portion thereof, without permission in writing from IEC.
Nothing in these terms shall be deemed to permit or licence you to use, modify or publish any trademarks, including any service or certification marks including any logos, of IEC.
By purchasing a copy of an IEC Product, you agree to be bound by a Licence agreement. This Licence Agreement regulates to what extent the purchaser is allowed to use a purchased publication.
In the case of violation of these terms and/or infringement of any intellectual property held in IEC Products, IEC reserves all rights and enforcement thereof, against you as well as any relevant third-party.
3. Artificial Intelligence (“AI”)
You shall not use publications and documents sold through IEC Webstore for the development of any algorithm, digital model, software program, or AI tool, including for the development or operation of a machine learning or AI system. This prohibition includes the use of robots, scripts, or any other manual or automatic mechanism to data mine or scrape IEC Products without express written permission by IEC.
You shall not, and shall not permit others to, introduce and/or otherwise use IEC Products and any intellectual property associated with them in any manner in AI technologies whether publicly available AI tools or privately licensed AI tools, unless you have obtained the specific and express permission of IEC.
4. Privacy
IEC monitors and records all access to IEC Webstore, including for purposes of ensuring respect of these terms and conditions. You shall safeguard your account password as confidential from any other person, including other permitted users with separate accounts, and shall immediately notify any breach of security related to your account, as further defined below in clause 9.
Your use of IEC Webstore is conditioned on acceptance of the IEC cookie notice.
5. Representation and warranties
Your use and access to IEC Webstore, including any products offered or sold thereunder, are provided “as-is" without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied. This includes, but is not limited to, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
IEC, including its Members, Officers, employees, agents, and any other contractor, shall not be liable for any delays, inaccuracies, errors or omissions in any product offered or sold through IEC Webstore or the provision thereof through IEC Webstore, including in the transmission or delivery of all or any part thereof, or for any damages arising therefrom. Furthermore, IEC takes no responsibility for, and will not assume liability, for any damages arising from or related to use, including any interpretation of IEC Webstore and any product offered or sold thereunder.
IEC will not be liable for any delays, inaccuracies, errors or omissions in any IEC Products or the provision thereof through IEC Webstore, including in the transmission or delivery of all or any part thereof, or for any damages arising therefrom. Furthermore, IEC takes no responsibility for, and will not assume liability, for any damages arising from or related to use, including any interpretation, of the IEC Products.
6. Taxes
No taxes / VAT are charged for orders placed outside of Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Local taxes are applied to orders delivered in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Custom duties which may be applied to orders dispatched outside Switzerland and Liechtenstein are your responsibility.
7. Invoices
After placing your order, you will have access to your invoice in your account and receive a copy in PDF format by email.
8. Payment
Orders can be paid by credit card, PayPal or bank transfer. We accept American Express, Mastercard, Visa, JCB and CUP. You may pay in your local currency but please note that the invoice will be in Swiss francs (CHF).
Payments by bank transfer must be made in Swiss francs (CHF) or equivalent amount in EUR or USD. Make sure to mention your order reference number (alternatively the quote or invoice number). All bank charges for remittances are borne by the customer. Once we have received the payment your order will be processed.
9. Security
IEC Webstore uses SSL 256-bit encryption which is compatible with the majority of web browsers. This industry standard technology allows you to communicate with our Webstore via a secure, encrypted link, thus preserving data integrity and confidentiality.
You must notify us immediately of any security breach or unauthorized use of your account.
10. Shipping & handling
Orders for hardcopy and CD are dispatched by the following working day in Switzerland. The shipping and handling prices can be found here.
11. Returns policy
IEC does not accept returns for purchases of electronic documents in PDF format. IEC reserves the right to revisit this no-refund policy at any time. For publications in hardcopy or CD format, returns are accepted on a case-by-case basis. They can only be returned after agreement from IEC who will explain the procedure to follow.
12. Termination
IEC reserves the right to terminate these terms and conditions with immediate effect should IEC determine you have violated any provision of these terms or caused another customer to violate the provisions of its agreement with IEC.
13. Severability
If any term or provision of this agreement is at any time held by any jurisdiction to be void, invalid or unenforceable, then it shall be treated as changed or reduced, only to the extent minimally necessary to bring it within the laws of that jurisdiction and to prevent it from being void and it shall be binding in that changed or reduced form. Subject to that, each provision shall be interpreted as severable and shall not in any way affect any other of these terms.
14. Miscellaneous
No failure or delay by any party to exercise any right, power or remedy will operate as a waiver of it nor indicate any intention to reduce that or any other right in the future.
So far as the law permits, and unless otherwise stated, this agreement does not give any right to any third party nor creates a basis for claims by third-party beneficiaries against IEC.
15. Governing law and dispute resolution
This agreement is governed by the laws of Switzerland, with the exclusion of its choice of law provisions. The Courts of Geneva, Switzerland shall exclusive jurisdiction.
