Governor Walz says he's a friend of Dean Phillips, but he admits the third district congressman's bid to run for president is something he doesn't get.

"I don't know why he made this decision," Walz said on the WCCO Morning News with Vineeta Sawkar.

"I don't why people make certain decisions, but in this case, it's not going to be relevant and we'll just move on."

Move on to nominate Joe Biden for another term, which Walz said will be another successful campaign and four more years in the White House.

This comes as Biden is set to travel on Wednesday to Minnesota, where he will visit a farm near Northfield and tout his administration's push to increase federal spending for rural areas.

Walz said the trip is not in reaction to last Friday's announcement by Phillips that he is running for president and will challenge Biden for the Democratic nomination.

"No, this was planned long before that," said Walz. "I think that's the last things presidents think about."

It was a year ago, and also announced on WCCO radio, when Phillips said that Biden's age is a reason for him not to run for re-election, and that Democrats should have a choice when it comes to deciding on a presidential nominee.
