The casting news has been long anticipated, as both former Vanderpump stars have been seen filming with the cast of The Valley over the past few months.
Ahead of the end of season two, The Hollywood Reporter spoke with executive producer Alex Baskin about the future of the series, where he addressed fan backlash surrounding Kent, Schwartz and Scheana Shay’s potential addition to The Valley.
“I think part of what is fun about these series’ is that there’s something for everyone, and I think there’s a lot of different points of view, and I think obviously those three are very much a part of this group, just naturally, and they’re very comfortable living their lives in front of the cameras,” he said of the three possibly joining The Valley. “They’re used to it, they’ve been doing it for a long time.”
Their inclusion to The Valley comes after reboot Vanderpump Rules with a brand-new cast. Schwartz appeared on the Lisa Vanderpump-led series during all original 11 seasons, notably as Katie Maloney’s husband and subsequent ex-husband. Kent was introduced to the series during season four and became a full-time cast member in season six.
Season 11 of Vanderpump Rules ended on a broken note, with most of the cast divided amid Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval’s Baskin told THR the series was not ending and said that it’s “definitely possible” the original cast could return in some capacity.
The Valley additionally stars Vanderpump alumni Kristen Doute and Brittany Cartwright, alongside Luke Broderick; Danny and Nia Booko; Jesse Lally, Michelle Saniei; Jason and Janet Caperna; Jasmine Goode; and Zack Wickham.
Ahead of the season two premiere of The Valley, the cast told THR which Vanderpump stars should join their cast for future installments. Janet and Saniei threw out Kent and Shay’s names, while Goode suggested the latter woman, while noting, “I don’t think we need anyone from Vanderpump Rules to come over; we are a huge cast and you’ll see this season, we don’t need any more going on.
Vanderpump Rules season 12 will arrive on Bravo on Dec. 2, with Baskin further teasing that the cast “are very different” from the originals, “but [the show] still has all of the really fun, juicy ingredients.”
“I really would encourage everyone to stick with us and give us a chance, because I think they’re going to be won over,” Baskin said of the refreshed cast. “I think they’re going to see that the show naturally came together, because, again, we didn’t force together a group that didn’t exist, and it’s a lot of fun, and it really captures the life stage that we saw in the early days of Vanderpump Rules and as opposed to the later life stage [in the later seasons]. I’m excited to reverse everyone’s skepticism and convert that into enjoyment and passion for the new series.”
