Sydney Sweeney’s MAGA heel turn does not appear to be going as planned. After all-time worst box office debuts—and that includes films that came out during the height of the pandemic. Even worse? Zendaya (allegedly) doesn’t want to be friends with her.
According to an insider at The Daily Mail, Zendaya is refusing to do press with Sweeney for the long-awaited third season of Euphoria, which is set to premiere in the spring. “It’s a difficult position for Zendaya to be in,” the source said, adding that she’s “refusing” to do press calls with her co-star. “Because if she even stands next to Sydney on the red carpet, it can be read as her excusing Sydney’s views on Trump and her refusal to apologize for the racist ad.” Also, why stand next to Sweeney when you could stand next to Hunter Schaefer? Just saying…
How much stock should we put in these rumors? On the one hand, Daily Mail insiders are hardly a source of gospel truth, especially when young female celebrities are involved. On the other hand, is it so hard to believe that a mixed-race woman might have some feelings about standing next to a woman who was recently revealed to have registered as a Republican in Florida in 2024? I don’t think so.
Sweeney has continued to ignore reports about her being MAGA and has seemingly refused to disavow her association with the Trump administration. And when GQ recently asked if she had anything to say about her American Eagle jeans ad that was accused of being eugenics-coded, she said, “When I have an issue I want to speak about, people will hear.” That issue is apparently not white supremacy. OK, girl!
