'Nice to have Nebraska really represented': Kamala Harris selects Tim Walz as running mate

Kamala Harris officially selected Tim Walz as her pick for vice president on Tuesday.The Minnesota governor spent his childhood in Nebraska and graduated from Chadron State College. Walz was born in West Point, Nebraska, a small town just one hour outside Omaha. KETV NewsWatch 7 spoke with voters who say it was time for some Midwest representation at the top of the ticket."It'd be nice to have Nebraska really represented. Everyone always says we're such a flyover state. We have a lot to offer here," said undecided voter Sherry Reimers."He was an educator and he served in the Nebraska National Guard," said Walz supporter Rachel Wise.Some voters were won over by Walz, and others are undecided."Walz now and Harris because I do think common sense and he brings that perspective," Wise said."It would depend more on what I read about," said Reimers.Meet Tim Walz: Kamala Harris picks Nebraska native, Minnesota Gov. as her running mateBud Pettigrew played high school football with Walz and stays in touch with him decades later."I mean, you could go fishing with him, you could go hunting with him, you could go to a ball game with him. He's just a really great person," said Pettigrew.Tim Walz's distant cousin Nebraska State Sen. Lynne Walz said her relative is the right person to represent Nebraskans."I'm super, super excited to have a Nebraskan who cares about the Midwest, somebody who cares about working families and our values. He and other parents took students on a school trip to China, creating memories and a friendship that still exists today."I've known Mr. Walz and Mrs. Walz since I was in high school. They're both excellent people, so we were just really excited for the nation to get to know him, but someone that we know here, a Nebraskan. Very exciting," said Tim Walz's former student Aubrianne Faustman.Walz's first campaign appearance with Harris is happening on Tuesday evening at a rally in Philadelphia.
