During PSG’s 2-1 Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, the 27-year-old defender was involved in a duel for the ball with Bayern winger Luis Diaz just before half-time.

Diaz, who scored both of Bayern’s goals, made a lunging challenge from behind on Hakimi that made contact with his left knee, causing the defender’s leg to bend awkwardly. Diaz was given a yellow card before the decision was reviewed by the video assistant referee (VAR) and upgraded to a red card.
PSG have confirmed that the right back will miss several weeks of action as he recovers from the injury. It remains to be seen how how long the defender is sidelined for but there is optimism he could still be fit to represent Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations that begins on December 21.
Hakimi was treated on the pitch for several minutes before being helped off the pitch by medical staff. He appeared to be in tears as he left the playing field at the Parc de Princes.
In addition to Hakimi’s injury, PSG confirmed that Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele and left-back Nuno Mendes will also miss the next few weeks due to injury issues.
Dembele, 28, was only able to play 25 minutes of the game at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday. With the home side 1-0 down, the France international thought he had equalised before his goal was deemed offside after a VAR check. Due to what was later confirmed to be a calf strain, he was replaced by Lee Kang-in minutes later and was shown walking straight down the tunnel.
Recurring injury issues have seen Dembele be limited to just nine appearances in all competitions this season. Mendes, 23, played the entirety of the game against Bayern, but a knee sprain means he joins the French side’s injury list.
Forward Desire Doue, who on Tuesday was named as reported by The Athletic on October 30.
PSG head coach Luis Enrique initially said after the Bayern defeat that he was not aware of the extent of the injuries.
“I don’t know. We have to wait for tomorrow to see after the tests exactly what is the injury for the two players,” said Enrique. “Ousmane’s injury doesn’t have anything to do with the last injury but he has played the time that you know (in this game).
“Hakimi, it’s football, it’s a contact sport and it’s a shame because it’s complicated for the player, but these actions are like that. I remember the last summer, (Bayern midfielder Jamal) Musiala’s injury, these are unfortunate actions. Tomorrow will be the day when the doctors will say what the injuries are.”
PSG, top of Ligue 1, return to action with a visit to sixth-place Lyon on Sunday.
