Watch Michael Bolton Play Michael Bolton in ‘Office Space’ Homage
Funny or Die has done what everyone’s thought of doing since Office Space first taught America about about pieces of flair and and how to properly say “Ummm” in 1999: Replace the character Michael Bolton with the actual Michael Bolton.
The new clip finds Bolton dutifully recreating a handful of scenes where office drone Michael Bolton, originally played by Dave Herman, suffers the indignity of having to explain that he is not related to the singer. Bolton only breaks character once, winking at the camera as he tells Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu), “There was nothing wrong with that name until that ‘extremely talented’ ass clown started winning all those Grammys.”
Of course it wouldn’t be an Office Space homage if a printer wasn’t destroyed, and it’s especially satisfying to watch Bolton gracefully take a bat to the malfunctioning machine. Bolton even lip syncs a few lines of the Geto Boys’ “Still” in a recreation of one of the movie’s more awkward moments.

While the Funny or Die clip helps bring a cultural phenomenon full circle, it’s not the first time Bolton has found himself recreating classic movie scenes. In 2011, the singer wrote “a big sexy hook” for the Lonely Island track “Jack Sparrow,” using his magnificent pipes to turn a standard club banger into a soaring ode to the Pirates of the Caribbean hero, as well as Tony Montana, Forrest Gump and Erin Brockovich.
