LADY Gaga has revealed she suffered a breakdown while on a world tour — and was so scared she sought psychiatric care.

Months before, she had headlined the Super Bowl half-time show to critical acclaim and filmed A Star is Born, for which she would win an Oscar.
But she says she needed mood-stabilising medication simply to get through the movie.
She said: “I did A Star is Born on lithium.”
Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, then embarked on a fateful world tour in the summer of 2017, which she was forced to abandon.

She recalled: “There was one day that my sister said to me, ‘I don’t see my sister any more’. And I cancelled the tour.
“There was one day I went to the hospital for psychiatric care. I needed to take a break.
“I couldn’t do anything. I completely crashed.
“It was really scary. There was a time where I didn’t think I could get better.

“I feel really lucky to be alive.
“I know that might sound dramatic, but we know how this can go.”
Gaga said she had reached breaking point after years of living on “coffee and music”, while working all hours to create her larger-than-life persona.
She had thrived on crazy costuming and eccentric behaviour, famously attending the MTV Video Music Awards in 2010 in a dress made out of beef.
She also rocked up at the Grammys inside a translucent egg.
The New York-born star eventually received the treatment she needed and was still in the early days of recovery by the time of the Oscars in 2018.
Gaga pulled off a pitch-perfect performance of her nominated song Shallow, which then won her an Academy Award.
But she told Rolling Stone magazine it was only when she met venture capitalist Michael Polansky, now her fiancé, in 2019, that she really got better.
The couple were introduced by Gaga’s mum, Cynthia Germanotta, who met him at a charity do and told him he would be perfect for her daughter.

He had reservations, revealing: “Nobody in my life would’ve thought of me as somebody who wanted attention.”
But the pair met and fell in love, with Gaga crediting her partner for seeing the “real” her, not the stage version.
She said: “It’s so special to look back on that, because so many people in my life at that time were looking for a good time.
“People really loved Drunk Lady Gaga.”
She added: “None of my tricks were gonna work on him.
“We were gonna meet each other and probably have a very sincere adult conversation and see if we liked each other.
“Michael’s sense of gravity might be the thing that I was attracted to about him the most.
“He immediately understood how serious things were for me.”
The pair got engaged in 2024, with Michael proposing with a blade of grass which he wrapped around her finger.
He later replaced it with a massive diamond ring, estimated to have cost $1million.
They hope to get married soon, either during her current Mayhem world tour, or just after it finishes next April.

Then their priority is starting a family.
She told the magazine that she feels like “a healthy, whole person” for the first time and added: “Being a mom is the thing I want the most.”
