FANS have all branded Ireland AM star Joe Shannon as “inspirational” as he returned on air and opened up about his cancer treatment.
The doctors discovered a blockage in his intestines in March 2021.

Joe went into Sligo Hospital with cramps on a Saturday and was told he had cancer just three days later.
Unfortunately after getting the all clear earlier last April, Joe found out his cancer had returned.
After doing six heavy sessions of chemotherapy, Joe got some devastating news.
He was told that he would need to continue with a lifetime of chemotherapy – six sessions of chemo, stop, assess, scan and then another six session.

Joe found out that this was he only option to stay alive.
Despite the extremely tough time Joe’s gone through, he remains positive and cheerful.
The Sligo native cooked up a storm for Tommy Bowe on the show this morning.
Joe opened up about his battle saying: “I’m going through a bit of a tough time at the minute but I’m going in for chemo today, starting a new batch of six sessions.

“On this road, there can be ups and downs or whatever. At the moment I’m going through some problems internally so they need to check that today.
“But look it, I’m looking down at the grass, I’m upright so things are good. I’m on Ireland AM, what more could I ask for?”
Ireland AM shared the clip of Joe talking on Instagram and captioned it: “Despite going through a bit of a tough time, Joe Shannon tells Alan & Tommy that he still remains positive.”
Fans were all blown away by Joe’s positive attitude and flocked to the comment section to share their love and support.
Mary said: “Comes across such a lovely man, wishing him all the very best in his road to recovery.”
One viewer commented: “Inspirational! Keep the faith Joe! Sending prayers and well wishes your way.”
Anne wrote: “Wishing Joe all the very best for today and in the future. Always so jolly.”
‘SOMETHING SPECIAL’
Fiona added: “Good Luck today and in the future. He’s such a nice man.”
Joe and his friend Georgie Gorman created a video series called The Recovery Tour to provide solace to those undergoing cancer treatment.
Speaking about their blog, Joe told The Irish Sun last year: “We do it to highlight the danger of cancer. We want to get every man, woman and child at least once a year to do a medical check.
“Early prevention is a massive message to get out there.”
They have received a great reaction and have helped many people from their videos.
Joe said: “Up to now we’ve had over 100 thousand views. Sometimes when you have cancer your mind can play tricks on you.
“If you can see somebody else in a similar situation to you doing something normal, it sort of gives you a bit of solace that you can be that someday soon.

“The sad part of some of the messages we get is when we get texts from people saying their family member has died but before they died – they watched our videos and out videos gave them a smile before they died.
“And that’s lovely as well, it’s something so special to be able to say that.”
