Anthony Hopkins

Anthony Hopkins is an award-winning actor best known for his roles in The Silence of the Lambs, Westworld and more.

Hopkins was born in Wales and graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff. After completing college, Hopkins performed in various theater productions before joining the Royal National Theatre in 1965.

In 1967, Hopkins made his small-screen debut in A Flea in Her Ear. The following year, he snagged his breakout film role as Richard the Lionheart in The Lion in Winter — which scored him his first BAFTA nomination.

Hopkins won his first Oscar for his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs. His career didn’t slow down from there as he continued to act in a variety of projects including Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Mask of Zorro, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor franchise and more. In 2021, Hopkins became the oldest Oscar winner for Best Actor after taking home the award for his performance in The Father.

In 1993, Hopkins was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to drama.

In his personal life, Hopkins has been married three times. He wed his first wife, Petronella Barker, in 1966. The exes, who split in 1972, share a daughter. ​Hopkins was later married to Jennifer Lynton from 1973 to 2002. The actor tied the knot with wife ​Stella Arroyave in 2003.

Hopkins has been sober since 1975.
