1. Magic pipe trick: Synonymous article titles may be clarified with terms in parentheses, like this: Self (psychology). But when you want to include such a link in the body of an article, this would look rather awkward. So all you have to do is use the "magic pipe trick", like this: Self (psychology). Notice the pipe ("|") character stuck in there at the end of the link? That makes the link look like this: Self, without having to type the name of the link after the pipe! This trick also works with namespaces, so that Wikipedia:Tip of the day
(again notice the pipe character) displays like this: Tip of the day.
2. Plural trick: While editing, you will often need to make a link to a plural. For example, suppose you wanted to link "Fred Foo was famous for his study of puddles" to puddle; you could link it like so: puddles
. However, you can save time by instead writing puddles
. This also works for adjectives (Japanese
), verbs (danced
), and any other suffixes or prefixes, like bringing
. It does not, however, work for some irregular verbs. For example, tryied
does not work; you have to use tried
. Nor does it work with apostrophes needed outside the wikilink like: J. R. R. Tolkien's
.

Question from Ramencolls (11:50, 13 March 2025)
[edit]Why I am not able to edit protected articles? What should I do to edit them? --Ramencolls (talk) 11:50, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

For pages under extended confirmed protection, an account must be at least 30 days old and have made 500 edits in the English Wikipedia main space. Both criteria must be met. A fully protected page cannot be edited or moved by anyone except administrators. Let me know if you have further questions for I am here to help. Cassiopeia talk 20:22, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Question from Nandita Parihar (05:38, 15 March 2025)
[edit]Hello, How do I create a company information page? --Nandita Parihar (talk) 05:38, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Nandita Parihar Good day. In order for a subject to warrant a page in the main space of Wikipedia, it must fulfill the criteria outlined in the Wikipedia guideline on notability, specifically the General Notability Guideline (WP:GNG).
- GNG is defined as the subject must fulfill specific criteria to demonstrate significant coverage from independent and reliable sources. These sources should provide in-depth discussions about the subject rather than merely offering passing mentions. This requirement is essential for verification, which is a core policy of Wikipedia. If a source is affiliated/associated/connected with the subject—such as the subject's marketing team, company, social media platforms, information in interviews of the subject or any self-published information—this indicates a lack of independence. Consequently, such sources cannot be utilized to satisfy the notability guidelines.Sources originating from educational institutions, government entities, foundations, social media platforms, and private companies are regarded as unreliable. In contrast, materials published by "major" newspapers and "reputable" books are typically considered reliable sources.
- I recommend that you read WP:Your first article and adhere to the provided instructions before beginning the creation of an article. Cassiopeia talk
Question from Ayeshanissa (08:33, 17 March 2025)
[edit]Hi there! How do I do citations, especially if the publication doesn't show the name of the author? --Ayeshanissa (talk) 08:33, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Ayeshanissa Good day. For inline citations, please use the horizontal format of Template:Citeweb for web sources and Template:Citebook for books. If the author's name is not specified in the article, please leave the first and last name fields blank. Cassiopeia talk 20:52, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]Latest Translations are available.
Weekly highlight
- Twice a year, around the equinoxes, the Wikimedia Foundation's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team performs March 19 at 14:00 UTC.
Updates for editors
- The the unified dashboard, desktop users can now: Translate new sections of an article; Discover and access topic-based Community-defined lists filter, also known as "Collections", from wiki-projects and campaigns.
- On Wikimedia Commons, a new system to select the appropriate file categories has been introduced: if a category has one or more subcategories, users will be able to click on an arrow that will open the subcategories directly within the form, and choose the correct one. The parent category name will always be shown on top, and it will always be possible to come back to it. This should decrease the amount of work for volunteers in fixing/creating new categories. The change is also available on mobile. These changes are part of planned improvements to the UploadWizard.
- The Community Tech team is seeking wikis to join a pilot for the project talk page.
- Starting March 25, the Editing team will test a new feature for Edit Check at on Phabricator. [1]
- The listing of existing translations and documentation to check if their language needs updating or creation.
- The GlobalPreferences gender setting, which is used for how the software should refer to you in interface messages, now works as expected by overriding the local defaults. [2]

Updates for technical contributors
- Later this week, the way that Codex styles are loaded will be changing. There is a small risk that this may result in unstyled interface message boxes on certain pages. User generated content (e.g. templates) is not impacted. Gadgets may be impacted. If you see any issues please report them. See the linked task for details, screenshots, and documentation on how to fix any affected gadgets.
