Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Bands and musicians
![]() | Points of interest related to Musicians on Wikipedia: Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Assessment |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Bands and musicians. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Bands and musicians|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Bands and musicians. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Only reliable coverage present is one article from Blabbermouth. Could not find additional coverage for the band or any of their albums. - Delete. Can't find anything in a BEFORE, and the current revision's sources do not establish notability. 1 is an entry in a list of 13, 2 is in entry in a list of 15, 3 is only about one EP (not the group as a whole) and is from a student-run paper, 4-10 mention the group in passing, 11 does not mention the group, 12 is a YouTube video of a song, 13-14 do not mention the group, 15 is an album, 16 is a song, and 17-25 do not mention the group.
With stars jumping on these highly computerised beats with heavily auto-tuned voices, the once-stigmatised vocal correction tool has morphed from being “a tool to perfect to being used as its own medium”, in the words of Helixtears producer Babs. - ref 11

I have carried out WP:BEFORE for this BLP on a musician, and am not seeing significant coverage in reliable, independent sources; I have not found any references to add. The existing sources are primary or interviews, and a press release. The Bash looks like a platform for musicians to advertise on. The "alternativetentacles" reference is to the record company's website. The mention of Barnes in the Fischoff competition docuyment just says "Benjamin Barnes, 21, Viola". The other reference for the Quartetto Rilke doesn't mention Barnes. The grant documentation is a quote from him, and a primary source. The missionlocal reference is decent coverage, but another interview. The mayoral paperwork just lists his name as a candidate. I don't think he meets WP:GNG, WP:ANYBIO, WP:NMUSIC, WP:NARTIST or WP:NSUBPOL. Redirect to Deadweight (band) is a possibility, per WP:BANDMEMBER. Tacyarg (talk) 11:00, 27 March 2025 (UTC)

- The article is true and fact worthy about my life. I have done much that is notable in music and business. I have also recovered from catastrophic injuries for which I had to relearn to do many things due to traumatic brain injury from getting hit by a train. My skull was shattered and I had several surgeries to reconstruct my head. I have a prosthetic bone in a quarter of my skull, the lateralis muscle, skin graft from my leg and a vein from my arm grafted to my head. I suffered Traumatic brain injury twice once by getting hit by a train and the other from getting it by a car. I also have schizoaffective disorder and have overcome struggles with grave disabilities and been successful. I have registered a 501(c)(3) of which I am the executive director and an LLC I own. I have written 2 books an autobiography and a business manual for artistpreneurs. I am the commentator on a nationally syndicated radio podcast "The Price of Business" "The Coaches Corner" of which over 20 articles and spots have are posted on the PoB Digital Network. A movie "Violin Madness" was filmed about my life and career as a street musician and former rock star living with disabilies and recovering from catastrophic injuries and Traumatic Brain Injury. Deadweight won the Lucky Strike Band Competition in the year 2000 and performed twice at the Fuji Rock Festibal. My first demo was coproduced by former bass player of Metallica Jason Newstead. I have over 110 recordings on all streaming platforms and major web-stores.

- .
- Benjamin Barnes (Bencasso)
- Benjamin Barnes, professionally known as Bencasso, is an American musician, author, entrepreneur, and mental health advocate. He is known for his genre-blending work as a classical and rock violinist, his leadership in nonprofit and artist development spaces, and his remarkable recovery from catastrophic injuries and mental illness. Barnes is the founder of the nonprofit Culture Scholar Corporation and the multimedia company Bencasso LLC. He is also the subject of the documentary Violin Madness, and a regular commentator on the nationally syndicated radio show The Price of Business.
- Early Life and Education
- Barnes began playing violin at the age of two, carrying a broken violin like a security blanket, and by age five, he was singing with his family on the street for money. He later studied violin at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, earning both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Performance. He also holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University.
- Music Career
- Deadweight and Rock Success
- Barnes gained national attention as the lead singer, electric violinist, and songwriter of Deadweight, a hard rock power trio known for its electric string instrumentation and intense performances. Deadweight won the Lucky Strike Band Competition in 2000 and performed twice at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, one of the largest outdoor music festivals in the world.
- His first demo was co-produced by Jason Newsted, former bassist of Metallica. Barnes has performed or collaborated with artists such as Jason Newsted, and the Erik McFadden Experience.
- Recordings
- Barnes has released over 110 recordings, including with Deadweight, Swindlefish, and as a solo artist. His music spans genres such as rock, classical, bluegrass, jazz, and experimental. He has also composed original works and arranged classical repertoire, and his discography is available across all major streaming platforms and web stores.
- Catastrophic Injury and Recovery
- In 2007, Barnes was hit by a train, sustaining a catastrophic traumatic brain injury (TBI) that shattered his skull and required extensive reconstructive surgery. Doctors implanted a prosthetic bone into a quarter of his skull and performed grafts using his leg skin, arm vein, and lateralis muscle to reconstruct his head. Later, he was struck by a car and suffered another TBI.
- Despite being diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and facing years of recovery, Barnes relearned to play music and rebuilt his life and career. His story has been featured in interviews, podcasts, and the independent documentary Violin Madness, which chronicles his recovery, street performances, and legacy as a performer with disabilities.
- Nonprofit and Entrepreneurial Work
- Culture Scholar Corporation
- Barnes founded Culture Scholar Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to bringing music and arts programming to underserved populations, including:
- Elderly residents in retirement homes
- Individuals with mental illness
- People in drug and alcohol recovery
- Programs include live concerts, therapeutic arts, music appreciation classes, and artistpreneur mentorship.

WP:BLP of a writer and musician, not properly referenced as passing inclusion criteria for writers or musicians. As always, neither writers nor musicians are automatically entitled to have Wikipedia articles just because their work exists, and have to be shown to pass WP:GNG on third-party coverage and analysis about their work -- but four of the nine footnotes here are just his own work being cited as metaverification of its own existence, two are blogs, one is a mere directory entry, and the only two nominally reliable sources in the bunch (one book and one improperly cited newspaper article) both just briefly namecheck Donald Walker without being about him in any sense, which is not the kind of coverage we need to see.
Nothing stated here is "inherently" notable enough to exempt him from having to pass GNG on much, much better referencing than this. Bearcat (talk) 12:19, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

I rejected this at draftspace but it was moved to mainspace and renamed. This fails WP:GNG due to a lack of secondary coverage. The book was written by someone who went to the high school and isn't secondary, and the reporting is local coverage, mostly of the book which was written. It's also not written from a neutral point of view, which is a clean up issue if this is kept. SportingFlyer T·C 23:39, 23 March 2025 (UTC)

Keep: The book is usable for historical information, and we don't need it to establish notability because the Detroit News and Oakland Press articles are enough to establish notability. The articles are relevant. The Detroit News is one of the most important newspapers in the United States. The Oakland Free Press is the most important newspaper in Oakland County. Articles relevant to Metro Detroit help achieve notability. The area has a greater population than some countries. The Metro Detroit area has millions of people. If you asked 100 people what their subjective opinion on what a neutral point of view is, they would give 100 different answers. As far as I am aware, the statements in the article are backed by reliable sources. I believe that is as objective as you can get. Orlando Davis (talk) 01:41, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- Why does this article meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines? Wikipedia rules require significant coverage of reliable and independent sources so that a fair and balanced article can be written. All of the articles used in the Pop Concert article are from reliable sources, including the Detroit News article and two separate Oakland Press articles, and those articles have the pop concert as the main subject and not just a passing mention, making the coverage in the Detroit News and Oakland Press articles significant. The Detroit News and Oakland Press articles are also independent sources as they were written by writers who were not affiliated with the pop concert. Wikipedia requires at least one secondary source for an article to qualify, and this article has several secondary sources, including the Detroit News article and the 2 Oakland Press articles. Wikipedia requires multiple sources for an article to qualify (The definition of multiple is more than one). The Detroit News article and the 2 separate Oakland Press articles satisfy the multiple articles Wikipedia guideline. See Wikipedia's notability guidelines posted here in the section "why we have these requirements": 02:30, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- Additionally: "Local sources are considered to be reliable sources if they meet Wikipedia's guidelines for being reliable sources. They are valid in establishing notability if they provide in-depth, non-routine, non-trivial coverage of the subject." See this Wikipedia article: Wikipedia:Notability (local interests)#:~:text=Articles on local interests are, going, non-trivial coverage. As I stated before, the Detroit News and Oakland Press articles provide in-depth coverage, and not just a passing mention of the Dondero Pop Concert. Also, the article Mr Hartoe's Opus was written 9 years before the other articles and compares Mr. Hartsoe's story to the movie Mr. Holland's Opus while discussing the history of the Dondero Pop Concert. The other two articles mention the book but focus primarily on the history of the Dondero Pop concert. Orlando Davis (talk) 17:14, 24 March 2025 (UTC)

- Delete: Zero coverage outside being mentioned in obituaries, this does not meet notability for singers. Independent releases rarely get media coverage, but we have no critical discussion, no charted singles, nothing that hints at musical notability here. Oaktree b (talk) 14:21, 20 March 2025 (UTC)
- Delete for lack of significant coverage. Unless it's your obituary, it doesn't matter for your notability. Bearian (talk) 01:21, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep I believe she meets WP:MUSICBIO#10, with her songs (and her singing) featured in films like American Pie and Love Wrecked, and on multiple TV shows including Road Rules. I have added info and sources, and deleted some inappropriate sources like Amazon. RebeccaGreen (talk) 14:19, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep according to one of the additional reliable sources added to the article Loni Rose has had twenty songs placed in films and tv including some big hit films so she does pass WP:NMUSIC in my view, Atlantic306 (talk) 22:50, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep I agree with Atlantic306. Subject meets WP:NMUSIC. RolandSimon (talk) 11:13, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep: Passes WP:NMUSICIAN criterion 10 due to the frequent film and TV use of her songs. Dclemens1971 (talk) 13:51, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep: I agree with Dclemens1971, WP:MN criterion 10 states that a person is notable if they "[have] performed music for a work of media that is notable", seeing as just I Never Thought You Would Come featured in American Pie, a well-known movie, that ought to cover her. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xarinu (talk • contribs) 15:04, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Article about a band, not properly referenced as having any strong claim to passing WP:NMUSIC. As always, bands are not automatically entitled to have Wikipedia articles just because they exist, and have to be shown to pass certain specific notability criteria supported by WP:GNG-worthy reliable source coverage about them -- but this cites no referencing at all, and is basically written as a directory entry rather than an encyclopedia article: it goes "they are a band who exist, list of members, list of recordings, website link, the end", without documenting a single thing about their career that could possibly be measured against NMUSIC at all. And the article's been tagged for lacking sourcing since 2010 without ever having any sourcing added.
Simple existence is not "inherently" notable enough to exempt a band from having to have any sourcing. Bearcat (talk) 20:37, 19 March 2025 (UTC)

- Further coverage from the Fresno Bee and the Arizona Daily Star has been identified and added to the article. The bylined Bee article states the subject is "pretty much the biggest band to come out of Fresno". ResonantDistortion 20:34, 20 March 2025 (UTC)

Weak keep - there are some sources online: Google News, etc. Instagram is not a reliable source, but he has 47,400 followers. I'm not sure that it's significant coverage, but I'm equally unsure that a decent search was done before nominating it. Bearian (talk) 09:36, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
