smallest (0): Returns the smallest value.
first (1): Returns the first quartile (25th percentile).
second (2): Returns the second quartile (50th percentile).
third (3): Returns the third quartile (75th percentile).
largest (4): Returns the largest value.
MIN, MEDIAN, and MAX return the same value as QUARTILE when quartile-num is equal to 0, 2, and 4, respectively.
Examples
Suppose cells B2 through J2 contain the values 5, 6, 9, 3, 7, 11, 8, 2, and 14, respectively. The value for each quartile can be found with the formulas:
=QUARTILE(B2:J2, 0) returns 2, the smallest value.
=QUARTILE(B2:J2, 1) returns 5, the 25th percentile or first quartile.
=QUARTILE(B2:J2, 2) returns 7, the 50th percentile or second quartile.
=QUARTILE(B2:J2, 3) returns 9, the 75th percentile or third quartile.
=QUARTILE(B2:J2, 4) returns 14, the largest value.
