Terraria developer Re-Logic has now sold more than 20 million copies of the sandbox game, the studio announced today.
Re-Logic actually hit the milestone before the end of 2016, the company said. Terraria debuted in May 2011 on Windows PC, meaning that it took about five and a half years for the game to reach the 20 million mark. According to Re-Logic, 8.5 million of those 20 million copies were sold in the 18-month period between June 2015 — the release of the version 1.3 update, a significant one — and the end of 2016.

16 CommentsPlayStation Store flash sale cuts prices on Bloodborne, Broken Age and more
Sony is currently running one of its semi-regular flash sales on the PlayStation Store. This one is called “Action Deals,” even though the discounts aren’t available only for action games such as FromSoftware’s Bloodborne.
The previous flash sale came less than a month ago. During this one, more than 100 games are on sale, with the majority being PlayStation 4 titles. Bloodborne is one of the highlights, with the game’s Complete Edition — which includes the expansion The Old Hunters — available for $17.49, a 50 percent discount.

PlayStation Now, Sony’s full-game streaming service, will soon be discontinued on every platform outside of PlayStation 4 and Windows PC, the company announced today.
“After thoughtful consideration, we decided to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices,” said Brian Dunn, senior marketing manager for PlayStation Now. “This move puts us in the best position to grow the service even further.”
Sony officially launched PlayStation Now in January 2015 on PS4, and brought the service to PlayStation 3 in May 2015. The company added support for PC, where you can use a PS4 controller with a USB dongle, last summer.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a slate of free games in February that includes the creation-focused co-op adventure LittleBigPlanet 3 and the pixelated shooter Not a Hero, Sony announced today.
LittleBigPlanet 3, which launched in 2014, was the first entry in the franchise to not be developed by series creator Media Molecule; it was made by Sumo Digital. Although the game was released on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, it’s not a cross-buy title, so only the PS4 version is free this month on PlayStation Plus.

There's probably a reason Musou Stars, the next game out of Koei Tecmo's Warriors series, doesn't yet have a launch date in the west, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
I mean, cats. We have cats here, too, right? Who doesn't get cats?
And gambling! C'mon, Americans loooove to gamble. Three sevens on a slot machine is jackpot, that's kind of a universal language.
OK, alright, I will say I was a little flummoxed by the choo-choo train that sucks up people and ejects them from its smokestacks. But again, as a citizen of the country that invented Amtrak, I know a train is capable of wrecking shit, so I interpreted its combat prowess contextually.

Sony is holding a flash sale on the PlayStation Store this weekend, with more than 150 games for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on sale for less than $5. The sale also includes nearly 80 movies to buy or rent at deep discounts.
There are some good deals on games you may have missed out on, like the Definitive Editions of Tomb Raider and Sleeping Dogs. And while it may not have been received well critically, $4.99 for The Order: 1886 certainly makes that very brief game a little easier to justify.

Guerrilla Cambridge, a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment best known for its work on Killzone: Mercenary, is set to close down. Sony confirmed that the veteran studio will close down as part of a restructuring within its European branch.
“Within SIE Worldwide Studios, we continually evaluate the status of studio projects to ensure we have the proper resources in place to deliver innovative products within a competitive landscape,” a representative for Sony said in a statement issued to Polygon. “After reviewing all current and future projects, we have decided it is necessary to make some changes to the European studios structure in order to meet our strategic objectives.
“As a result, it has been decided that Guerrilla Cambridge Studio will close.”

Valkyria Revolution, the latest installment in the Valkyria Chronicles military role-playing game franchise, will launch stateside in spring 2017, Sega announced. Known as Valkyria Azure Revolution in its Japanese release, the game’s got a new name and another console lined up for its Western launch.
Instead of hitting just PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita as it did in Japan, Valkyria Revolution will hit Xbox One in the U.S. as well. The Vita version will only be available digitally, Sega announced in a press release.

In a world where dragons took over Earth, one girl and one man in space must punch them in the eyes.
So I gather from EarthNight, a roguelike runner where you launch yourself from dragon to dragon, running down their winding spines before poking them aggressively. The goal is to eventually reach Earth’s surface to end this dragon plague once and for all. Each dragon is procedurally generated, and contains multitudes of monsters, platforms, and collectibles.
According to the developers, each dragon has 125 potential layouts. You’ll see a few different kinds of dragons in this video. You’ll also notice that the game is challenging as heck. Let It Die is the newest game from Grasshopper Manufacture and GungHo Online Entertainment. It’s their take on the action survival genre and it’s out today on PlayStation 4. The game’s release was also followed by a trailer that was shown on stage during the PlayStation Experience 2016.
For those unfamiliar with the game, imagine if Dark Souls had a futuristic, punk aesthetic and you’re probably imaging a game that looks a lot like this:

Windjammers, the Neo Geo classic flying disc game first released in 1994, is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, Sony announced at PlayStation Experience 2016 today.
Gio Corsi, senior director of third part production at Sony Interactive Entertainment America, announced the title as part of the “building the list” initiative, which takes PlayStation fan suggestions and turns them into reality — sometimes against all odds.
In a PlayStation blog post, the CEO of DotEmu, Cyrille Imbert, talks about how he and his team have have always loved the game and dreamed of bringing it to a mass audience. On Wednesday, PlayStation announced the last batch of free games to PlayStation Plus subscribers for December, bringing to 72 the number of titles it offered in 2016. Were they any good? What would they cost otherwise? In short, what do the numbers say about the value of this PlayStation Plus benefit?
We’ll try to answer that question this year as we have before. To that, however, we’ve added a few more questions: How old is the game? and Did Sony also publish it? Did these appear earlier on Xbox Live Games With Gold?

Sony has revealed the final set of free games for PlayStation Plus members this year, capping off 2016 with two underground hits for PlayStation 4 owners. For December, PS Plus subscribers can try out Invisible, Inc. and Stories: The Path of Destinies, among other games.
Invisible, Inc. launched on Steam Early Access last year, receiving cult acclaim for its stealth- and turn-based strategy gameplay; the game hit consoles in the spring. Stories: The Path of Destinies was an even smaller project, but one that action-heavy role-playing game fans who did check it out enjoyed.
On PlayStation 3, there’s Hyper Void and Tiny Troopers Joint Ops; the latter is cross-buy with PS4 and Vita. Vita owners also get the popular platformer VVVVVV, as well as the PS4-compatible Color Guardians.

The PlayStation 3’s 10th anniversary is fast approaching, and Sony is running a two-week sale on the PlayStation Store to mark the occasion, with deals on a wide variety of games and movies.
The PS3 debuted in Japan, where it launched Nov. 11, 2006 — a decade ago this Friday. Sony brought the console to North America six days later.
