The Lee County Sheriff's Office said the man arrested in Hardeee County is connected to a murder investigation in Lehigh Acres. According to Sheriff Carmine Marceno, the suspect, Leosbey Cuesta De Armas, stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death on Nov. 8 at a home on Lake Avenue and East 3rd Street.

UPDATE: Man stalks, fatally stabs ex-girlfriend in Lehigh Acres, sheriff says

Deputies got a call around 6 p.m. on Saturday about the stabbing. The sheriff's office said they found a woman with multiple stab wounds to her chest, who died at the scene.

The sheriff said the woman, who came to Lehigh Acres from Hialeah with her kids, went to visit a family friend to put up Christmas decorations.

"He was not invited to that residence. He basically stalked, went in, committed a burglary while inside and a battery, and here we are," said Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno.

Inside the home, deputies said a witness noticed the pantry door was stuck. When it opened, the witness said De Armas was glaring at her with a knife.

The sheriff's office said the witness screamed and De Armas ran past her. That's when detectives said he got on top of his ex-girlfriend and attacked her.

After the deadly stabbing, the sheriff said De Armas ran off and did not say a word.

The sheriff's office did not say how long De Armas was inside the pantry or how he got in, but did say De Armas was stalking his ex-girlfriend.

As law enforcement searched for De Armas, the sheriff says he was spotted in Hardee County on Nov. 9.

When they tried to pull him over, the sheriff's office said De Armas sped away, and deputies chased him.

FHP got involved in the chase and the sheriff said De Armas eventually crashed and was taken into custody.

He is facing multiple charges in Hardee County, though he crashed in Polk County. He will eventually come back to Lee County to face a second-degree murder charge, along with burglary with battery.

The sheriff said De Armas has no criminal history and is also from Hialeah.
