If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what everyday stuff famous people add to their carts — like electric toothbrush. We asked Naomi Ackie — who stars in the recently released movie Sorry, Baby — about the electrolyte powder, silk robe, and chips she can’t live without.

I actually was gifted this by my boyfriend’s mom for Christmas about two years ago. And it is still probably something I use and carry with me all the time because who wants dry lips? This is always good just to have a basic. When I’m not working, I don’t really wear a lot of makeup, so it’s a must-have for me because I don’t really do anything else. I’m a bit lazy. It’s just really good and really conditioning and doesn’t dry out on your lips. It makes them nice and soft.

For one, this has been standard since I was a kid. Cocoa butter also just smells nice and is so lovely and thick. It’s especially good in the winter to protect me from the English cold. It’s quite nostalgic for me because my mom used to cream my skin with it when I was a kid. It just feels like a comforting lotion. I’ve tried so many, but I always go back to this one as my favorite. Specifically, the one that comes in a pot. I think it’s the smell. It smells like you can eat it, and I like that.

These are new for me. My boyfriend got me onto them, and they’re really, really good electrolytes. They’re filled with all the good vitamins and really help if you’ve had a day of drinking. I take one at night and in the morning the next day to get me back on track. It’s also useful to take in the summer when you’re sweating a lot and missing out on all the stuff coming out of your pores. It’s good to put them back in. It also tastes really good.

I always have a dressing gown. I have quite a few right now. It’s definitely a treat, but I figure the things that you wear every morning and every evening should be something you put some good money into. It’s just comfort. I really love my home and am there a lot, so I like having home clothes that feel super-comfy but aren’t too embarrassing if I have to open the door for a delivery or something. These from Olivia von Halle are really nice. They kindly gifted me this one, and I use it every single day.

This is probably one of the best crisps ever invented. I would know because I am a big crisp fan. If there are crisps in my house, they are gone in half an hour standard. Some days, I know that’s the case and I’ll go out and get these knowing I’m going to absolutely demolish the whole bag in one sitting. These are best with either a sour cream or chive dip. It is just a banger. They’re perfect for a dinner party. But then I’m the one hanging around the bar eating them the whole time.

Yes

I read this about four years ago. It’s about a woman who is a serial killer, but it’s also about sibling rivalry, and the story is set in Nigeria. It’s a really quick read but so, so impactful. It’s also very dry and very funny, even though it’s maybe not meant to be. Since I first read it, I’ve read it twice more. I recommend reading it.

I haven’t had a teddy bear since I was a kid. Then I recently did this film called Mickey 17 and was given this plushie of a Creeper (they’re the aliens in the film) by the marketing guys. I was like, “No, I’m grown. I don’t need one.” Then I saw how cute it was and took it home. It is so cute that I named him Gerald. And once you name it, I mean, you’re fucked. He just sits there whenever I wake up in the morning. I make the bed, and he sits pride of place in the middle of the pillows. Then he just gets a good cuddle at night. I forgot how wonderful plushies can be, even if you’re a grown-ass woman. It’s just a step before I get a puppy.

Waitrose is a grocery store here in London. I think it may be similar to Trader Joe’s in the States, though less good snacks. But what they do have is a really good lunch deal. It’s like five quid for a healthy protein box, drink, and a little snack. I’m not a great cook, so often at lunchtime I wait too long and I’m like, Oh my God, what am I going to do? I started getting these at Waitrose, and I’m sorted until dinner. I love practical things. I stick to this and have never fussed about lunch since.

The Lime bikes here are the equivalent of New York’s Citi Bikes. This is new for me. I was scared to do it. I only rode a bike during COVID when there were no cars on the road. As soon as the cars came back, I got really scared. I don’t know how to drive and didn’t know how to read a road. I’ve recently moved to a part of London, though, where I kind of need a bike and have started to explore with the Lime bikes. It is so much fun and has given me so much freedom. In the summertime, of course, it’s way better, but it means that I can get around quite quickly. It’s also helping me to read roads better and understand that kind of stuff, because at some point I’m going to need to learn how to drive.

I used to listen to so many podcasts about true crime. I’ve started to calm down on them, but the one I can’t stop listening to is Rotten Mango. I think the host is so good at telling a story in a really sensitive way. She’s really good at the balance of telling the truth as it stands, but also not being exploitative of the victims. I also like that every podcast that she does, she has a charity attached to it as well. There’s this opportunity to give back that I really enjoy. I would recommend this to anyone who’s interested in true crime or a good story. Maybe not a good story, but a scary portrayal of what reality can be sometimes.

I’m really showing myself. I think Love Island is one of the best pieces of reality TV. I just adore it. I have never watched the U.S. version. I’m still a U.K. watcher. When it wasn’t as popular and people didn’t know they would become influencers or famous off the back of it, it was especially an insane social study. It’s kind of like when you go clubbing and you see people trying to flirt and get each other’s numbers. It’s fascinating to see how gender plays in dating, the games people play, the cliques that are formed, and how people choose to communicate and have conflict. And all of it is set in the sun. I’m a very, very big fan. I’ve been watching this last U.K. season every day. Listen, I’m not ashamed of it. I think it’s great TV.
